Case study: Benefits realised

We analysed opportunities within an established supply chain for bespoke corrugated cases. Several hundred mid-size business customers are served through a single value-added reseller with production by a panel of four complementary manufacturers. We took six weeks and set a challenge to minimise the cost to the end-user customer. No manufacturer was to be asked to discount prices. The results were astonishing.

Before Quantum Quoting, suppliers were manually selected based on experience, considering the required design, size and quantity. Amongst the manufacturers are a short-run local converter, large run regular slotted cases, outsize box producer and a high-quality mid-size print and value-added provider.

Quantum Quoting analyses every aspect of the requirement and checks what every supplier can make. We found that 62% of supplier choices could be improved, achieving 20% lower production costs on average.

We also examined the prices quoted on 33 lines, totalling £165,000. These had all been rejected by customers as uncompetitive. Using Quantum Quoting, we found that the quote was too high in 30% of cases because of manual estimation choices.
